This got me thinking.... Should the Online Safety Act be made stronger or should humans themselves learn to spread love and not hate. No matter how strong it may get, if humans want to hate, they will surely find newer ways. Focus should be made mainly to us the users to spreas the love, not the hate❤

This misses some major problems with the Online Safety Act. It's talked about as applying to "big tech" but it doesn't just apply to "big tech", it applies to any "user-to-user service". It imposes onerous requirements on services even if they only have a handful of users. The online privacy expert Heather Burns wrote on Twitter the other day, in response to a post from Tobias Ellwood: "Wait until you find out about the mandatory third party age and identity checking compliance requirement for all services carrying user-to-user content - even hobby forums - under the Conservatives’ Online Safety Act, Tobes. (Oh I cannot *wait* for the railway anorak forums to learn that they’re expected to carry out multiple risk assessments every year, including age checks, to prove that they’re not exposing children to eating disorder and self-harm content on the forums. I’m not joking.)"

The video is intended as a 5 minute conversation starter for classroom discussions, it's not a comprehensive look at the Act. The observation you make is a great contribution to the discussion.

I work for (for only 3 months) for a company that tracked this statistics. It was a call center job on site, & its what called “idle time”. What the most pathetic thing about this was, these are pharmacy. Technician positions, and often we had to call a doctors office. If we were put on hold, our company expected us to be doing work while being put on hold, (and they recommend doing your computer-based training modules) (aka “CBT”s. This is a crazy and dangerous request!, because you’re multitasking while on the phone with somebody there’s a high chance you’re gonna get an error in your interactions with that customer. - This was seven years ago, so there’s a mouse jiggers we’re not invented. So with money, but I did was just open up a notepad session and just typed into an open Notepad session. So in other words you’re going to get carpal tunnel syndrome, with a job like this. I’d rather work stocking shelves in the supermarket, then doing Henris competitive motions & getting carpal tunnel syndrome - If you’re in a job, in a call center, they can keep track of your productivity, based on how many interactions with customers and clients you successfully do. it’s not necessary that your mouse be moving every second of every minute.

I've worked at a lot of places, they may as well have 4 day work weeks, Fridays are usually nothing burgers in office work. I have also found myself waiting on other teams to do stuff so I can finish my work, so what am I supposed to do? There is such a thing as overreach. As long as stuff is getting done I don't really see why they need to power trip over you for not being physically in the office. It's much quieter at home. You don't have to deal with all the people who don't know how to manage their phone notifications and put their devices on silent for one...

  • @TheLeftistOwl

Corporate surveillance of its remote employees is not ethical nor is it safe. By forcing employees to put Spyware on their computers, you are unnecessarily exposing them to more malicious attacks. What happens when the Spyware on the device is used by someone else to spy on your employee and gather data on their active times working or what they work on? Not only is it a huge invasion of privacy and overreach by the company, it actively makes the employee more vulnerable. If you want to make sure your employees are doing work, set achievable goals. If they meet those goals in a timely manner, reward that behavior. If they're not, disincentivize their laziness. You don't need to spy on them to make sure they're doing their jobs

It's not wrong, just abstracted to the level of study. A lot of what we learn in computer science isn't actually the whole truth the deeper you go. For example, 1010 in binary at GCSE is the number ten. At A level it is the number -6, and it could even be the number -0.25.
